01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
At Ruka Mari, a casual Nepalese restaurant tucked into a building in Hirai, the menu ranges from jhol momo—steamed dumplings in a fragrant, spiced soup—to plain bara, made from urad bean paste and griddled until golden. It is an easy-going place for a regular meal or a relaxed evening of drinks and small plates.
Traditional Nepalese Cooking and Easy-to-Share Snacks
The small plates include sukuti fry, dried mutton stir-fried with spices; sekuwa, grilled skewers; and alu jeera, potatoes seasoned with spices. Alongside familiar steamed momo, diners can try crisp fried momo or the more pungent chilli momo. Nepalese beer, sours and cocktails made with lassi are among the drinks on offer, with flavours that pair well with the richly spiced food.
Filling Set Meals and Asian Favourites
For a more substantial meal, the Nepali khana set brings together rice, curry, dal and achar. Curry options include mutton, chicken and lentils, and sets are also available with freshly baked plain naan or rich cheese naan. The menu extends to familiar dishes from around Asia, including gapao rice, pad thai and tom yum ramen, making it easy to choose according to the mood.
From lunchtime through the quieter evening hours, Ruka Mari offers a welcoming place to enjoy homestyle Nepalese flavours at a table.
